συνεργός

Synergy (from the Greek syn-ergo, συνεργός meaning working together) is the term used to describe a situation where the final outcome of a system is greater than the sum of its parts.

The Apostle Paul used the word in his Epistles (Romans 8:28; 1 Corinthians 3:9) to illustrate a dynamic conception of human, divine and cosmic cooperation:

“I did the planting, Apollos the watering, but God made things grow…We are fellow workers (synergoi) with God; you are God’s cultivation, God’s building.”

A Rising Generation

“I can hear the sound of a rising generation, not afraid of love or dreaming of the future. They talk about Jesus and the good things He’s done….”

These are the words of a song ringing through my mind. There’s a sense of excitement in this song. You hear the song and you feel something big is gonna happen today or this year!

From our Bibles and the witness of the Holy Spirit, it is clear that there is a call to Christian Community among us and it’s ringing out today.

The message coming to us through this song, is that we are called to be apart from this world’s way, living an alternative lifestyle, stepping out for the cause of Christ, shining bright in a world of darkness, living out love in a world full of hate.

The question is; What are we willing to do? How far are we willing to go for this cause?

We are one body, one church, one people from many nations – choosing God’s way together. We lift our hearts in worship to God and the Holy Spirit moves upon us, brooding above us, preparing our hearts for the task in hand.

Soon it’s time for our children to go marching off into the school buses and back to school to live for Jesus. Sooner or later it is also time for tea or coffee or just a time to rest after long hours of work… for some maybe –

The truth is that we are apart of a rising generation. We are apart of that “kindred” shining bright! We are the people of God and Jesus is our hero: He stood against this world’s selfishness, went against society’s expectations. He did the unthinkable so that we could be free: free from hate, free from unforgiveness, free from lies, free from death.

Daily we pray for strangers, showing people the love of Jesus, shining true hope among the false light.

Today is another day to carry on the cause of Jesus in our everyday lives, with the strength of God behind us and the power of the cross above us.

Deuteronomy 7:7-10

7 The LORD did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; 8 but because the LORD loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the LORD has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments
