Hear the word…. Again

 I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
         From whence comes my help?
 2 My help comes from the LORD,
         Who made heaven and earth.

 3 He will not allow your foot to be moved;
         He who keeps you will not slumber.
 4 Behold, He who keeps Israel
         Shall neither slumber nor sleep.

 5 The LORD is your keeper;
         The LORD is your shade at your right hand.
 6 The sun shall not strike you by day,
         Nor the moon by night.

 7 The LORD shall preserve you from all evil;
         He shall preserve your soul.
 8 The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in
         From this time forth, and even forevermore.

Psalm 121

See the salvation of the LORD

13 And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever.

14 The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”

15 And the LORD said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.

16 But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea.

LIVING BY FAITH

Early 1980s my father served as a lay itenerant circuit preacher in my hometown of Lemeiywet. Back in those days my dad drove a four door station wagon peugot that could only carry five of us in a family of 13 kids. Every Sunday, my dad got to pick at least three to go with him. I could hardly wait for my turn which happened once a month.

Early 1982 I was getting ready for my opportunity to travel with dad in his itenerant preaching. Dad had an invitation to preach Sunday, August 1, 1982 at Kabungut Circuit meeting, a distance of about 30 miles from my home. I remember this day so clearly because after looking forward for weeks and having even rehearsed a song to sing my trip was cancelled.

This is what happened. At midnight on Sunday, August 1, 1982, a group of soldiers from the Kenya Air Force took over the radio station Voice of Kenya and announced that they had overthrown the government. Early in the morning at 8:00 my dad called us together to spent time in prayer. He announced that he would be travelling alone for the situation was unpredictable. Before he left he had us sing a song he had learn from a missionary – “I am living by faith.” The song goes,

I care not today what the morrow may bring, If shadow or sunshine or rain.
The Lord, I know, ruleth o’er everything. And all of my worry is vain.

Living by faith (Yes, living by faith) In Jesus above (in Jesus above)
Trusting, confiding (trusting, confiding) In His great love (yes, in His great love)

From all harm safe (safe from all harm) In His sheltering arm (His sheltering arm)
I’m living by faith (I’m living by faith) And feel no alarm. (feel no alarm)

Tho’ tempests may blow and the storm clouds arise; Obscuring the brightness of life. I’m never alarmed at the overcast skies, The Master looks on at the strife.

I know that He safely will carry me thro’ No matter what evils betied;
Why should I then care, tho’ the tempest may blow, If Jesus walks close to my side

As we begin this week, I pray that the words of this song will minister and touch the parts of your life that no one can touch.

Call to Pray for Economic Crisis

Recent headlines have been filled with unprecedented economic news on the world economy. In the midst of a growing sense of crisis, we realize this brings anxiety to all people.  Perhaps some are seeing their funds shrink to the point of significant fear of the future. A common reaction could be “spiritual contraction” in response to the “economic contraction” . . . which results in turning inward.

At Victory Fellowship, we do not propose to have answers to the economic crisis. But we declare to all people around the world that we serve a God of love and goodness.  Our hope is rooted in the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Because of this hope, we pray for . . .

  • The leadership of nations as they deal with the impact of this crisis.

  • The poor who are already suffering from food shortages and rising costs.

  • Courage and commitment for generosity in the face of fear and panic.

  • Local churches as they minister to families in need.
